Jennifer Steen - Holistic Esthetician

Hi, I’m Jen.

I’m a holistic esthetician and skincare enthusiast. As a former buyer in the fashion industry, my unhealthy addiction to work, stress, and perfection led me down a path of unbalanced hormones, weight gain, and hormonal acne. After completing training and licensing as an esthetician, I cultivated my passion and activism into the green beauty movement. My goal? To educate on the perils of mass market cosmetics and to coach on making informed decisions about what goes on our skin. Today, with these goals in mind, I work with clients out of my nyc skincare studio. My approach is simple - heal don’t hide.

a little bit about my method & mission

Healing Not Hiding

My technique works to heal your skin. It's not a band-aid fix approach. What's happening on the outside is a reflection of what's going on inside. I want to help you get to the root cause of your skin concerns and address them where they start. Sometimes that means an unconventional solution, like eliminating something from your diet, or deep breathing exercises. My focus is on your skin's natural ability to heal and stay healthy, not to exfoliate the heck out of it and give you a false sense of repair. So much of our perception of beauty is dependent on antiquated ideals created by phony marketing and unrealistic results. Newsflash, your skin is powerful and perfect and BEAUTIFUL. Stop letting someone else's ideas shape your reality.

All Natural, Clean, and Plant Based Products - NO EXCEPTIONS

I have searched high and low, tested, and continue to research "green beauty" products. I promise that you will never have to worry about ingredients in the products I use for treatment or the products that I sell. My standards go above and beyond any of those commercial "clean beauty" conglomerates. In addition to common chemicals and synthetics, most of my products are free from common allergens like gluten and nuts.

Vegan and Not tested on animals

This is a big one for me. With the exception of a few products containing beeswax, everything I use and sell is vegan. I will not bring anything into my business that has been tested on animals- PERIOD.

Small Businesses centric

As a woman and a business owner, it's important for me to promote and celebrate other entrepreneurs. My products are from small (mostly women owned) businesses that produce in small batches. It's a way to guarantee quality and a commitment to customer satisfaction with which larger companies can't compete.

sustainability

When I was looking for product partners it was important to find vendors that aligned with my pledge to consume less, reduce waste, and be more environmentally conscious. All product packaging is recyclable and made of at least some part post-consumer material. Most of the containers are glass and the boxes are printed using soy ink. I only use and sell goods made in the US as a way to minimize the carbon footprint. All ingredients are consciously sourced and most are organic.
